Built of Harcourt granite, it stands as an important landmark for visitors and residents at Charing Cross, one of Bendigo's major intersections. Architect WC Vahland, who also designed the Town Hall, embellished the fountain with four allegorical figures, dolphins, nymphs and unicorns. The money for the structure was donated by gold-mining magnate, George Lansell (500 pounds), the Sandhurst City Council (700 pounds) and from other public works. The Fountain stands in the middle of town on a bridge over 200 metres in width, which spans the Bendigo Creek. The creek re-emerges in Rosiland Park.
Walking distance from the CBD and many attractions, it offers high quality accommodation and services to both the corporate and leisure market . A new Motel, our rooms are fresh and clean, however the reception and residence are historic in nature. Classified within the Heritage envelope of Bendigo, the original lead light windows and pressed ceilings are a delight to view. The huge timber reception bench is a feature we are proud to display.
